MSG (an excitotoxin)

MSG is a  food additive MSG (Mono-Sodium Glutamate) is a slow  poison. It hides behind 25 or more names, such as ‘Natural Flavoring, Hydrolyzed Vegetable Protein, hydrolyzed yeast, Natural Meet Tenderizer etc. It is an ecxitotoxin. MSG is found in so many of the foods we feed our children and consume ourselves everyday. Canned soups, dressings,  seasonings, fast foods restaurants (almost all the foods they sell), chicken, soy, bullion cubes, Doritos, Cheetos, Pringles, Top-Ramen, cold cut meat, gravies, etc etc etc.John Erb wondered if there could be an actual chemical causing themassive obesity epidemic in America, He was aresearch assistant  at the University of Waterloo in Ontario , Canada ,and spent years  working for the government.  He made an amazing discoverywhile going through  scientific journals for a book he was writing called’The Slow Poisoning of America’.In hundreds of studies around the world, scientists werecreating obese mice and rats to use in diet or diabetes test studies.  Nostrain of rat or mice is naturally obese, so  scientists  have to create them.  They make these  creaturesmorbidly obese by injecting them with MSG when they are  first born. The MSG triples the amount of insulin the pancreas creates, causingrats (and perhaps humans) to become obese.  They  even  have a name forthe fat rodents they create:  ’MSG-Treated Rats.’WHY IS MSG ADDED TO OUR FOOD?According John Erb, MSG is added to food for the addictiveeffect it has on the human body… to make people eat more!MSG manufacturers themselves admit that it addicts people totheir products.  It makes people choose their products over others, andmakes people eat more of it than they would if MSG wasn’t added. Not only is MSG scientifically proven to cause obesity, it is anaddictive substance.  Since its introduction into the American food supplyfifty years ago, MSG has been added in larger and larger doses to thepre-packaged meals, soups, snacks, and fast foods we are tempted toeat everyday. The FDA has set no limits on how much of it can be added tofood.  They claim it’s safe to eat in any amount. What do you think? This make me want to be very careful with what I am putting into my body.click here to read more, scroll down past the first article.very interesting, gives you something to think about:

Benefits of Raw Honey

What is Raw honey?Raw Honey simply means nothing has been done to it.  It has not been heated or filtered.  Therefore it retains its beneficial enzymes, antioxidants, vitamins, pollen grains and aroma.  Raw honey is simply extracted from the hive and bottled. Raw honey does not have to be rotated in your food storage.  Store it properly and it will last forever.  (It is best to store it at room temperature).  Raw honey is a food that contains all the substances necessary to sustain life. What are the benefits?Honey is antiseptic, antibiotic, anti fungal, and antibacterial. Here are a few amazing things honey does. Read here for a more complete list.Allergies  Raw honey (especially from a local source) is an effective treatment for 90% of all allergies.  Treatment is 1 teaspoon of raw honey daily, even after allergy is under control.Healing agent  Unprocessed honey, straight from the hive has been used worldwide for millennia to promote healing.  In World War One, honey mixed with cod liver oil was used to treat soldier’s wounds.Build your immune system  In a March 2004 study at the University of California, Davis, it was reported that daily consumption of raw honey may raise polyphenolic antioxidant levels in blood and reduce the risk of damage by free radicals.  This means consumption of raw honey helps build your immune system and helps build a stronger body.Skin rashes, burns and abrasions  Apply over the affected area; may cover with a dressing or dusting of cornstarch to reduce stickiness.  It absorbs water from the inflamed tissue.

Basic Dressing Recipe

It’s hard to mess this one up :_) Just throw together ingredients & enjoy over quinoa & romaine lettuce w/ sunflowers, raisins, & red peppers for added crunch!

Basic Dressing:

1 c. Olive oil

1/3 c. Apple cider vinegar

2 T. Agave or honey

2- 3 cloves of Garlic

Touch of Salt (optional)

! t. Oregano or Italian seasoning(optional)

Lemon Icee by Natalie Goddard

Fill your blender with:

1 lemon- peel of the yellow rind & just put in the whole lemon (with all of the white part- it’s packed with nutrients!) you can also just juice if you prefer

¼- ½ way full with ice

1/3 c. agave nectar (can add more if you desire)(this is a great sweetener that works well with ice, but you can substitute almost anything but honey(clumps up with the ice)here)

Water up to the top

3 drops of lemon oil(this has amazing cleansing & healing properties:)- I’ve used a lot of essential oils, but I’ve only felt good about ingesting doTerra essential oils. If you don’t have any, just substitute another lemon)

 Blend. Enjoy!

Replacing sugar with saccharin isn’t good enough.

In a “shocking” study released this weekend, consumption of artificial sweeteners, like saccharin, were linked to weight gain. What should that mean to you?

  • No soda (drink water! It actually quenches thirst)
  • No sweetener packets
  • Eat healthy sweets (fruits, raisins, nuts)

Oils & Sweeteners

My favorites are:

If you buy them right, they aren’t much more than standard oils and your increased health & vitality will easily cover any price difference.

Sweeteners: (great sugar substitutes!)

Agave (great-tasting cactus nectar, ranks super low on the glycemic index)

  • Use 1/3 cup of agave syrup for every 1 cup of sugar in the original recipe.
  • Reduce liquids a little
  • Unlike sugar and honey, it dissolves readily in cold liquids (we enjoy a fresh lemonade w/ agave)

Raw Honey  (harvested without adding heat above 120 degrees fahrenheit- contains some pollen & is thought to lessen allergies & build immunity)

I get this locally from B&B Raw Honey 435-864-3032. It seems like it’s $50 for 25lbs. It’s stored well for me for 2-3 years. When we’re ready for more honey we just get some out of the bucket, mix it with a little warm water & then the honey never goes back to a solid form. If you need to warm it up, make sure you keep it on very low(a double broiler can be handy) to keep the benefits of being raw. If you bake the raw honey or warm it up too high, it loses many of it’s benefits and acts much like an unprocessed sugar to your body.
